Autograph Collection Hotels has announced the grand opening of The Laylow following an extensive $60 million renovation. Bringing the brand’s values of vision, design and craft to the island of Oahu, The Laylow joins a distinguished portfolio of more than 100 independent hotels around the world that are exactly like nothing else.
Perched on the revitalized Kuhio Avenue in the heart of Waikiki, the thoughtfully-designed hotel blends midcentury modernism with its Hawaiian roots, artfully conveying the island’s melting pot of cultures and its post-war architecture movement. Works by midcentury visionaries inspire the aesthetic of guestrooms, suites and public spaces while Hawaiian furnishings from the period have been reinterpreted to give the hotel a hint of whimsy and its distinct sense of place.
Designed by Official Mfg. Co. of Portland, Ore., The Laylow’s 186 guestrooms and 65 suites are outfitted with custom furniture and bold, visually-stunning monstera leaf wallpaper that perfectly captures the refreshed-nostalgia motif of the hotel. The color palette includes warm earth tones and textural neutrals for a calming ambiance, while pops of burnt orange, cobalt hues of the ocean and tropical pinks add bursts of eccentric flair. Private lanais and king beds in every room extend the kicked-back vibe.
The hotel’s signature restaurant, Hideout, serves up reimagined Pacific Rim classics created with locally-sourced ingredients. Executive Chef Bryan Byard combines his love of art and food to create culinary masterpieces that surprise and delight, such as coconut curry seafood stew with Kauai prawns and fresh fish; Kalua pork and Wagyu burgers; and kiawe smoked chicken in Hawaiian barbeque sauce and pork belly vinaigrette. The restaurant’s dining space extends to an open-air lanai overlooking Kuhio Avenue where guests can enjoy live entertainment by island musicians while sipping artisan cocktails or craft beer from Hawaii breweries.
Managed by Pyramid Hotel Group, The Laylow is ideally-situated just steps away from the newly redeveloped International Market Place, home to sought-after retailers and world-class eateries.
