Pioneering lifestyle aparthotel Eden Locke has officially opened its doors on Edinburgh’s stylish George Street, offering travellers and locals a design-led destination to eat, drink, sleep and live.
The new six-storey aparthotel in the heart of the popular Scottish capital is Locke Hotels’ second venture following a recent successful launch in London and boasts 72 studio rooms offering generous accommodation from 29 sqm to 33 sqm.
Each room includes a fully-equipped, carefully considered kitchen and living area with Smart TV – all intelligently designed to meet the needs of today’s modern traveller. The property cleverly fuses the comforts and autonomy of residential living with the character, service and amenities of a design-led boutique hotel.
The six-storey former townhouse has been transformed and restored by acclaimed New York architects Grzywinski+Pons. The meticulously stylish interior seamlessly blends the old with the new, combining the original features of the stunning Georgian listed property with a dynamic, bold and creative approach.
With a base of monochrome and sorbet-shade pastels, all rooms feature vibrant bursts of tactile textures, character and colour – including sunshine yellow doors and signature mint green sofas. Creative vision, enhancement of the beautiful natural light, and the proportional balance of the bespoke furnishings and fittings means that every space showcases a deep-rooted passion for design, form and function.
Each studio boasts imaginative spaces, where the living area takes centre stage. Rooms revolve around Locke’s bespoke L-shaped sofas, allowing guests to work, lounge or socialise in comfort. The result is a true sense of a ‘home away from home’, allowing guests to work or unwind without the feeling of living in the bedroom that often comes with hotel life. In addition, bespoke, kitchens are fully-equipped with utensils, dishes and a dishwasher to create a welcoming space to stay – whether it’s for a weekend or a whole week.
Guests can also choose to experience Edinburgh’s beauty to the fullest in one of the aparthotel’s mezzanine suites, with its original floor to ceiling windows that create bright and refreshing rooms and offer unparalleled views of Scotland’s capital.
At Eden Locke, the devil is in the detail and every room offers carefully thought out amenities including cocktail kits, bespoke carefully-curated natural body care from Locke’s own brand Kinsey Apothecary, as well as teas from T2 and organic, wholegrain granola from Rude Health.
The property’s private and public spaces epitomise the creativity and character of Edinburgh, subtly channelling the city’s unique personality; evident in everything from the spirits offering, craft beers, artwork, design and staff uniforms, to the ethos and culture.
Open for guests as well as non-residents, Hyde & Son is Eden Locke’s third wave coffee bar by day, and stylish wine and cocktail bar by night, offering a carefully-curated selection of wines and artisan spirits. An immersive social space, the interiors are sophisticatedly tropical, flooded with light and a botanical nod to the hotel’s name, inviting you to work, play or relax in the city sanctuary.
Head of Coffee and 2017 Global Barista winner James Wise sees coffee in a unique and scientific way. Coffee preparation and ingredients are given the same level of passion and attention to detail as a sommelier does wine, in a space that values the social experience as much as it does the quality of the coffee, teas and juices. Hyde & Son also presents a selection of freshly-made cakes and pastries from local artisan bakery Grams, all made with 100% natural ingredients.
As day turns to night, Hyde & Son offers an enviable, innovative cocktail menu, alongside carefully-curated wine lists and local craft spirits and beers, including an exclusively brewed beer from local craft brewers Harviestoun.
Eric Jafari, Locke Development Managing Director and Locke’s creator, said: “We’re honoured for Edinburgh to be the home of our second Locke. At Eden Locke, we’re blending together the best of a serviced apartment with the best of a boutique hotel. This city is a natural destination for our concept: historic, progressive, creative, understated and dynamic – much like we aspire Eden Locke to be.”
Eden Locke is the second venue from Locke Hotels and follows the successful launch of East London’s Leman Locke which opened in October 2016.
