The Dixon Hotel To Open In London In 2018

The Dixon, a new boutique style hotel part of Autograph Collection Hotels, is scheduled to open its doors in September 2018. Taking centre stage in the Tower Bridge neighbourhood on Tooley Street, The Dixon is set to become a new cultural hub for the capital’s centre of artistic activity. The Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and the diverse cultural offering of the new Bridge Theatre are all just a few minutes’ walk.

Named after John Dixon Butler – the architect who originally constructed the building in 1905 as a Magistrates’ Court and police station – the hotel takes inspiration from the area’s vibrant cultural heritage, while also capturing its new wave of creative cool.

Leading the architectural restoration is Consarc Design Group with twenty2degrees taking charge of the interior design and refurbishment. Showcasing a passion for art throughout the guest rooms and public spaces, the hotel will be transformed in uncompromising style that cleverly walks the line between old and new.

The 193 rooms, including 9 spacious suites, will redefine the traditional boutique hotel by seamlessly incorporating the local neighbourhood’s culture through an artful mix of heritage design. Think simple brickwork, tall windows and modern furniture from British designers that will sit alongside more classic pieces, whilst curated artworks from local artists will hang on the walls. All rooms will feature abundant natural light with state-of-the-art technology, including smart TVs and complimentary ultra-fast Wi-Fi.

Cleverly reflecting the building’s purpose as a courtroom, the Courthouse café will serve as a neighbourhood oasis that will welcome not only hotel guests but also the local trade. In the interiors, twenty2degrees’ work is recognised for its modern British design with a playful edge, as well as a sensitive connection to the heritage of space, while firmly tied to the present. Think original Georgian oak panelling, reclaimed pieces of furniture from the Courthouse and tasteful original art from local galleries.

Socially and culturally immersive, The Dixon will be as much about the local community as well as feeling at home. Enticing creatives and city hoppers keen to explore Tower Bridge’s rich culture; The Dixon’s support of local art will extend beyond its walls with a diverse cultural programme. Arranged by the hotel’s Cultural Committee, guests will have special access to the local theatres and studios surrounding its Tooley Street location.

On opening in September 2018, The Dixon will join Autograph Collection Hotels. This evolving ensemble is Marriott International’s growing collection of strikingly independent hotels with standout properties that have garnered international praise, including the Cotton House (Barcelona), Domes of

Elounda (Crete) and Hotel am Steinplatz (Berlin). Exactly like nothing else, each hotel is handpicked for its quality, rich originality, bold character and ability to offer guests a range of unexpected experiences suited to their individual sense of style and adventure.
