Style

The Grade II listed building has enjoyed a colourful history having housed the United Hospital in the 19th Century and most recently the Bath College of Art & Design until 2005, its name inspired by one of the city’s most illustrious residents, the highly-acclaimed painter, Thomas Gainsborough. The hotels incredible spa, grants its visitors the opportunity to access and experience Bath’s famed natural thermal waters. An experience that takes guests on a ritualised and immersive self-guided tour in a modern day Roman Bath circuit. The hotel’s private water reserve bubbles to the surface at 47 degrees centigrade.

The Gainsborough Townhouse meanwhile boasts equally gorgeous Georgian interiors. Combining classic interiors with modern luxury, The Townhouse is a treasure trove of authentic Georgian antiques and unique furnishings, all locally upholstered and restored. Highlights include the beautiful silk curtains and copper bathtub in the master suite, with a kitchen, dining area, lounge and outdoor patio offering plenty of space.

Head Chef at The Gainsborough Bath Spa, Dan Moon, has recently introduced a new spring, summer menus for guests to enjoy at Dan Moon at The Gainsborough. The restaurant, with Georgian architecture, original artwork and impressive wine wall is the ideal destination for a gourmet getaway and with new a la carte and five-course tasting menus boasting special signature dishes there’s never been a better time to visit. Vegan diners will also be delighted to discover that Chef Moon has incorporated plant-based dishes into the new la carte menu for both vegan and non-vegan guests to enjoy. With a focus on pioneering cooking techniques and theatrical presentation, Chef Moon’s dishes are more than just an experience for the taste buds and reflect his position as a trailblazer on the modern British culinary scene. The signature roast creedy carver duck, with confit spring roll, plum and sesame and the chicken tea with spring cabbage, kimchi, oyster leaf and radish offer an Asian twist, a nod to YTL Hotels’ Malaysian roots.

Valet Parking: The hotel has 20 valet car parking spaces available to guests which must be pre-booked. The charge is £38.00 per car per day. 

Parking: Guests who have not pre-booked valet parking may wish to park in the Southgate Car Park (12 Southgate Street, Bath, BA1 1AQ) or Avon Street Car Park (Avon Street, Bath, BA1 1UF). Both are approximately 5 minutes’ walk to the hotel and are open 24-hours for long stay parking. 

By Train: Bath Spa train station is a 5-10 minute walk from The Gainsborough Bath Spa. Taxis are available from outside the train station. First Great Western Trains offer frequent, direct trains from London Paddington to Bath Spa. The journey time is around 80 minutes. Bristol Temple Meads station is only 15 minutes by train from Bath.
