Part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection, the Cotton House Hotel is an impressive nineteenth century neoclassical building in the very centre of Barcelona. Offering visitors a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city, Cotton House Hotel combines the historic building’s original features with modern comforts, such as free high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the property, Nespresso machines and bathroom amenities from luxury Italian brand Ortigia.

The hotel boasts a rooftop plunge pool with an unparalleled view of La Sagrada Familia, a well-equipped gym and grants guests access to next door’s Mayan Luxury Spa, winner of the World Luxury Spa Awards in 2018. Moreover, in paying tribute to the building’s origin as the headquarters of the Cotton Producers Guild, the hotel offers an in-house artisanal tailoring service in partnership with the prestigious Santa Eulalia, a local atelier, available on request.

Location

The hotel’s location in the middle of Barcelona means that many of the major tourist sites, as well as the city’s shopping district are all within a short walking distance. Cotton House Hotel is a short ten-minute walk from Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, an entirely pedestrianised area, giving tourists a chance to take in the unique combination of Roman, Medieval and Gothic architecture.

Style

Despite it’s fairly recent renovation in 2015, the hotel retains many of it’s original architectural features, with parquet floors, high panelled ceilings and an imposing spiral staircase dating from 1957, which is suspended from the ceiling rather than being held at the floor. The whole space is light and airy, with modern artwork and prints on the walls, perfectly balancing old and new. The rooms themselves are modern and elegant, with small details such as anglepoise lamps giving a cool, retro touch.

Rooms and Suites 

The hotel has 83 rooms, of which five are large suites, in four different categories, all of which have a cotton theme: Panama, Madras, Cotton and Egyptian. All rooms offer guests large televisions, Nespresso machines, and high speed wifi, with the Egyptian and Cotton rooms having the bonus of a balcony or terrace. Panama rooms, it should be noted, are all able to be interconnected, making them ideal for families. 

The suites are larger, giving guests a separate sitting area and more spacious balconies. The largest suite, the Vichy, has two floors, two sitting rooms a bathroom and a bedroom with a spacious private terrace and external shower. It can also be interconnected, granting the suite and extra bedroom and bathroom.

Food and Drink Facilities 

The Cotton House Hotel has a cocktail bar and ‘Batuar’, the in-house restaurant. Offering both a tapas menu and more widely European menu, guests may eat either in the restaurant or on the large terrace of the hotel. Guests are also offered 24 hour room service and a range of breakfast options, available at an additional fee.

A well-equipped gym and outdoor pool are both available for guests to use, as well as access to the Mayan Spa, located just next door. The hotel also offers babysitting services and an efficient concierge desk who are on hand to help guests plan their stay in the city.

Nearby Attractions 

The hotel’s impressively central location means that many of Barcelona’s major tourist sites are a short walk away. Closest, however, are the Paseo de Gracia (one of the city’s best areas for shopping), Gaudi’s La Pedreda, Casa Batlló and Sagrada Familia and the Gothic Area with it’s cathedral and La Rambla.
