Chambao By the Beach at the Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay

This Ibizian beachfront restaurant is part of the Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay a five-star resort that combines contemporary design with traditional Ibicenco architecture. Chambao By the Beach offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, a chic and relaxed atmosphere with indoor and outdoor dining on the patio and sand, and an exquisite menu that blends traditional Spanish cuisine with Japanese flavours. TLE recently dined here, so read on to discover more about this beautiful restaurant in Ibiza’s Talamanca Bay.

A Reflection of Ibizan Culture

Chambao By the Beach takes its name from the traditional straw huts that dot the beaches of the region. These are used by fishermen and beachgoers alike for shade and relaxation. This concept is reflected in the design of the restaurant, which features thatched roofs, rustic wooden furniture, and a laid-back atmosphere that encourages guests to unwind and enjoy the stunning Mediterranean views. Sit in a director’s chair at a table perched directly on the sand, as you listen to the waves lap into shore; or cool off in the dining room.

The colour palette is light and breezy, with shades of white, beige and light blue echoing the island landscape and dominating the restaurant’s space. Similarly, decorative touches, such as driftwood accents and woven rope light fixtures bring that barefoot Ibizan feel. The seating areas are arranged in a way that maximizes the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and provides a gentle, welcome sea breeze.

Signature and Spanish dishes

Nobu’s signature and supremely innovative cuisine is a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian recipes, with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients and unique combos. But here in Ibiza, it adds in a local element, incorporating Spanish classics like paella and an abundance of freshly caught seafood. Black Cod with Miso and the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño are some of the most iconic must-try dishes, appearing along with options such as grilled octopus and Ibicenco red prawns and at weekends the cooking is taken outdoors at their BBQ where fresh catches of fish are prepared in front of you.

As this is a hotel restaurant, you can begin the day here too, with a healthy and nutritious breakfast. And no matter what time of day you visit, everything is artfully presented. Those visiting during these summer months can also experience the Gusto pop-up, by Michelin star chef Nieves Barragán.

Our Dining Experience

Coming from the UK it’s not too often you can dine on the sand so you have to grab these moments, and Chambao’s outside dining circles around a patio and onto the sand.

Snack

We started with some complementary fresh bread and tapenade and ordered a ‘Pica Pica’ meaning snack; we went for the Lobster, Cod and Asparagus Tempura, served with citrus mayonnaise and homemade lemon jam.

Starters

For starters, we went for the Steak Tartare which is flavoured with truffle oil, dried tomato, fresh basil, orange wedge & kataifi paste and the Grilled Octopus with potato foam, emulsified squid ink cream & paprika-flavoured oil.

Mains

For mains, we went for the Cod Loin which was beautifully slow-cooked and served with sweet roots, gremolata and honey & kafir lime butter and the Catch of the Day which was cooked on the BBQ and a portion of Padron Peppers.

Dessert

After a breather! We had dessert and our eyes were drawn to the Arroz Con Leche, the restaurant’s signature coconut milk rice, served with crisp Ibizan oranges and the Chambao Pie a delicious shortcrust pie topped with custard cream, almond cream and seasonal fruits.

Balearic Beverages

In addition to the food, Chambao By the Beach offers a carefully curated selection of wines, cocktails, and spirits, all designed to complement the flavours and atmosphere of the venue. With carefully paired drinks, you can experience an authentic taste of the Balearic Islands, combined with the world-class hospitality, for which Nobu is famed. And you needn’t rush off. Why not stay awhile and recline on one of Nobu’s Balinese beds as you savour some post-lunch drinks — perhaps a  Hibiscus Margarita or the Yuzu Mojito.?

Final Thoughts

Located on the beautiful Talamanca Bay, Chambao By the Beach ticks all the boxes for Ibizian outdoor dining, we fell instantly in love with it. It’s just a short drive (or taxi) from Ibiza Town and if you’re coming from further afield why not book a night or two at the exquisite Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay, you won’t be disappointed!
