InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has expanded its global footprint with the opening of InterContinental Sapporo, the brand’s first property in Hokkaido and Sapporo’s first international luxury hotel. The launch introduces a new level of refinement to the northern Japanese city, renowned for its world-class winter sports, vibrant dining scene, and creative culture.
Located within the Lilac Square complex in the Nakajima Park area, the 149-room hotel, including 13 suites, offers sweeping views of the park, Toyohira River, and city skyline. Interiors blend contemporary design with natural influences from Hokkaido’s landscapes, creating a warm, residential atmosphere throughout. Guests are welcomed in a light-filled lobby lounge with abundant greenery, a central fireplace, and an outdoor terrace overlooking the park.
“InterContinental has been connecting guests to the culture and beauty of the world’s most inspiring destinations for almost 80 years,” says Ben Leitgeb, General Manager of InterContinental Sapporo. “We are honoured to extend that legacy here in Sapporo, offering an experience that celebrates both the destination’s natural beauty and its cultural vibrancy.”
With three distinctive venues highlighting Hokkaido’s seasonal produce. Sawaka, an omakase-style restaurant, offers a Chef’s Choice menu combining Japanese tradition with modern culinary techniques, including charcoal grilling and low-temperature cooking. AuBlanc, a relaxed yet refined all-day bistronomy restaurant, serves a breakfast buffet, bakery treats, and evening dishes inspired by local flavours. Meanwhile, Norva Lounge & Bar offers afternoon teas, signature cocktails, and two distinctive lounge settings — the fire lounge and the forest lounge.
Leisure facilities include a 20-metre indoor heated pool with city views and a 24-hour fitness centre. The Club InterContinental Lounge, located on the hotel’s top floor, provides an elevated experience with private check-in, à la carte breakfast, evening drinks, and exclusive concierge services.
Set moments from Sapporo’s bustling Susukino district, InterContinental Sapporo positions itself as both a cultural hub and a tranquil retreat, inviting guests to explore the island’s northern spirit through design, gastronomy, and genuine Japanese hospitality.
