Maker’s Mark has announced the arrival of Cellar Aged 2025, the third annual release in its acclaimed luxury series and the most mature bourbon ever to leave the Kentucky distillery. Available now, this limited-edition expression represents the pinnacle of Maker’s Mark’s craftsmanship, combining age, balance, and the brand’s signature approachability.
At the heart of this year’s release lies a blend of some of the distillery’s oldest stocks, a 14-year-old bourbon complemented by 13-year-old and 11-year-old reserves. The result is a whiskey of remarkable depth and refinement, offering a nose rich with dark brown sugar, caramelised oak, and baked apple, followed by a palate layered with fudge, toasted almond, and ripe dark cherry, and a lingering finish of butterscotch and orange zest.
The maturation process takes place in the limestone cellar at Maker’s Mark’s Star Hill Farm Distillery, carved deep into the Kentucky hillside. After the first six years ageing traditionally in warm rickhouses, the whiskey is moved to the cool cellar for an additional five to six years, where its evolution slows, developing a deeper, more balanced flavour profile.
Dr. Blake Layfield, Master Distiller at Maker’s Mark, explains: “Ageing at consistently cool temperatures slows the extraction of wood tannins, allowing oxidation to do its work and developing a bourbon that’s more complex, yet remarkably approachable. By avoiding the overly bitter, tannic notes that can come with traditional long ageing, this one-of-a-kind expression challenges everything you think you know about aged bourbon.”
The 2025 release cements Maker’s Mark’s position at the forefront of American whiskey innovation, Maker’s Mark Cellar Aged 2025 is available now via Selfridges.
