The House of Suntory has introduced an exceptional artistic collaboration between its blended Japanese whisky, Hibiki, and painter Hiroshi Senju. This limited-edition release celebrates the harmony of Japanese craftsmanship, nature, and whisky-making, through two rare expressions, Hibiki 21-Year-Old and Hibiki 30-Year-Old.
Hiroshi Senju, best known for his mesmerising waterfall paintings, has reimagined Hibiki’s presentation boxes and labels as works of art. His new piece, Waterfall on Colors ‘Hibiki’, is inspired by Japan’s landscapes and rendered in ten shades of purple that reflect the Kokimurasaki gradient – a hue symbolising refinement and rarity. Crafted using natural marble powder and water, the piece mirrors the fluidity and depth found within Hibiki’s own blending philosophy.
The Hibiki 21-Year-Old features Senju’s waterfall imagery across both its label and packaging, embodying the whisky’s poise and layered complexity. The 30-Year-Old is presented as a true collector’s edition, housed within a byōbu-style screen display with a reflective base and a crystal bottle wrapped in a waterfall motif. Together, they embody the Japanese aesthetic of Miyabi – a balance of grace, simplicity and beauty.
Senju’s works are exhibited globally, including at London’s V&A and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and he has received numerous accolades such as the Honourable Mention Award at the Venice Biennale.
Hibiki 21-Year-Old offers an elegant balance of honeycomb, sandalwood and dried apricot, finished with the incense-like warmth of Mizunara oak. Hibiki 30-Year-Old delivers a deeper journey of brown sugar, dried fig and gingerbread, unfolding into a lingering richness.
