Snug on the southern slopes of the Albula Alps near the Italian border, St Moritz is the birthplace of Alpine winter tourism and modern Alpine sports, and its pedigree (and longevity) is abundantly apparent. One to watch is Chalandamarz, (1st March) a charming local procession of cowbells, traditional costumes and singing, where villagers in the region join to drive out the winter.
