Public House Bangkok, a Member of Design Hotels – Review

Located in the Phrom Phong district of Bangkok’s vibrant Sukhumvit, Public House Bangkok has created a hotel experience that is anything but ordinary. With mid-century modern styling, social spaces and a rooftop pool and gym, this is a boutique experience that feels equally inspired by the creative hubs of London, New York and Bangkok. The Luxury Editor checked in, so read on to discover more.

Featuring 79 rooms and suites, combining vintage design influences, parquet floors and subway-tiled bathrooms. Downstairs, the hotel’s open kitchen, Fest, serves socially inspired all-day dining, while the adjacent Open Bar delivers glamour and a cocktail list as inventive as the guests themselves. Head to the rooftop for a swim at The MOOON before unwinding with a sundowner cocktail. For those combining work and travel, the FORUM coworking space offers a productive setting, complete with a dedicated studio for podcast recording.

Check In

Check-in is quick and seamless, with a welcome tray presented on arrival, featuring a refreshing drink, a cold towel and a small bowl of crisps to nibble on while check-in is processed. As I had booked directly, I was also given a token to redeem a complimentary drink at the bar, which I gladly made use of later that evening.

Location

The hotel enjoys a prime spot in Phrom Phong, one of the city’s more desirable areas, it’s known for its mix of luxury shopping malls and rooftop bars. The nearby BTS Skytrain station a ten-minute walk away, makes it easy to explore the rest of the city, while popular attractions such as EmQuartier, Emporium and Benchasiri Park are all within walking distance.

Rooms & Suites

The 79 rooms and suites are divided into categories, starting with Downtown Rooms, followed by Uptown Rooms, Edge of the City Rooms, Day Dreamers, and Spacious Suites. The design continues the hotel’s signature industrial-meets-mid-century vibe with parquet flooring, modern art, vintage-inspired bathrooms lined with subway tiles and super king beds. Amenities include Nespresso machines, Bluetooth speakers, smart TVs, flip-flops and superb bath products. For those looking for extra space and a deep soak, the one-bedroom suites feature spa-style bathtubs, while the Premier Corner Rooms come with private terraces complete with yoga mats.

My Room During My Stay

I stayed in a Downtown King Room – room 26. A super king-sized bed sits against a deep blue headboard, parquet flooring and minimalist furniture add pops of colour. A compact work desk and open wardrobe area provide practical storage, while the marble-topped refreshment station features a Nespresso machine, kettle, Nordaq filtered water and a small selection of local snacks and drinks.

The bathroom offers soft green tiling, brass fixtures and a large rainfall shower. Locally branded Public House toiletries are provided, alongside larger-format body wash, shampoo and conditioner.

Fest

Fest, the hotel’s all-day restaurant, operates as a social hub from morning until late evening. The open kitchen serves comfort classics from Thai through to Italian, and at breakfast time, their inventive food menu is guaranteed to delight.

Opposite Fest, Open Bar provides a glamorous modern Art Deco backdrop for pre-dinner drinks or a nightcap. The cocktail list features everything from classic Negronis and gin basil smashes to pineapple mojitos, while room bookings via certain booking partners and direct include a welcome drink voucher that can be redeemed for a choice of spirits, beer or wine.

The MOOON

Head up to the rooftop to enjoy the saltwater pool and panoramic views across the Bangkok skyline, complete with a gym and shower facilities. As the sun begins to set, order a cocktail and watch the city’s skyscrapers glow against the evening sky.

FORUM

The hotel is particularly popular with creatives and digital nomads seeking a social, design-led environment in the heart of Bangkok. The hotels ‘FORUM; offers a comprehensive coworking space along with a podcast lounge which I made use of during my stay. The FORUM is complimentary to use, includes charging points and WIFI.
