The Grand, York

Overview

Built in 1906 as the North Eastern Railway Headquarters, The Grand York, a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, boasts a stately character with sweeping stone staircases, original wood panelling, parquet flooring and acres of marble. The extravagance and grandeur is all a reminder of the buildings former status as an icon of the golden age of railway travel. Now reborn as a hotel, but retaining its original splendour, with its intricate stonework and marble detailing, The Grand, York features beautiful public spaces, extraordinarily spacious rooms, two restaurants and bars, meetings and conference rooms, an executive lounge, a spa and a state-of-the-art cookery school.

Location

Situated next to the ancient walls that enclose the city centre, and with views of York Minster, the hotel is located at a historical crossroads – the perfect place to explore the city. The train station is a three minute walk from the hotel and the hotel’s porters are able to collect your luggage from the station.

Built in 1906, the hotel pays homage to it’s Edwardian roots with parquet and marble flooring, floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful Grand Boardroom which was once the boardroom for The North Eastern Railway HQ. 

In 2018 the hotel added another 100 bedrooms which tie into the railway heritage in terms of design but also provide a modern twist on classic Edwardian architecture.

The Rise Restaurant celebrates all that is great about Yorkshire and serves local and seasonal produce with a menu that puts a modern twist on traditional dishes. As well as an indoor restaurant, there is also has an outdoor terrace which is perfect to enjoy breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. The hotel boasts two bars both which provide unique and bespoke drinks as well as timeless favourites.
