It’s just a 20-minute drive to Innsbruck airport, skiing is close by at Gschwandtkopf, or if visiting in summer months don’t miss a dip in lake Möserer. Tyrol, Seefeld in Tirol
Hotel Klosterbräu & Spa

This romantic wellness hotel in the Olympic region of Seefeld is a haven for active couples and families alike (that includes your dogs – the host family has five of their own and extends the five-star treatment to four-legged visitors). There’s plenty of adventure to be had with activities including outdoor moonlit swims, tobogganing, igloo building, curling and snowshoe hiking. The hotel’s ethos is to cater to the needs of each individual with warm hospitality and fantastic food. If you’d like to escape the outside world with a loved one, pay a visit to the private spa for couples treatments, or enjoy the saunas and relaxation areas of the main spa. While the hotel’s exterior and some of the suites are traditional in style (this was once a 16th-century monastery), the theme of the interior design in its 90 rooms is contemporary and comfortable.

Tyrol, Zell am Ziller
Dasposthotel Zell am Ziller

This four-star family-run boutique hotel is ideal for guests seeking a homely stay. Echoes of nature run through the warm and exquisite interior design in its 70 rooms. Bold textiles, chandeliers, feature patterns and natural wood textures fuse rustic and refined elements to create a unique and cosy environment. Organic and sustainably sourced menus can be enjoyed at the hotel’s restaurant, Heleni, while the outdoor pool, sensuous spa and quaint garden alcoves provide plenty of opportunity for relaxation. It has the added benefit of being an environmentally certified, energy-saving establishment.

Vorarlberg, Lech am Arlberg
Hotel Gotthard

For a warm, friendly alpine welcome we think you can’t get better than this stylish hotel – with private gardens, a wellness area, an onsite bakery, restaurants and a tempting café selling the best baked goods in town! Accommodation is within two shingle-clad chalet-style buildings which blend beautifully into the mountain setting. Many of the generously-sized guest rooms have balconies. The Hotel Gotthard is also where you can have your cake and eat it too – since the family-owners are master bakers and the property’s onsite bakery not only supplies the Gotthard’s restaurants and cake shop, but also some of the top restaurants and stores in the area.

Vorarlberg, Lech am Arlberg
Hotel Almhof Schneider

This family home was repurposed as a small hotel in 1929 (the building itself dates back to 1451) and is still family-run. It’s close to the Arlberg ski area – guests can ski in and out directly from the building – and centrally placed in Lech. But with two restaurants, an in-house cinema, a smoking lounge with a pool table, a spa and an indoor pool there’s little need to stray far. Both the interior style and cuisine fits with modern Alpine living. There’s also a ski boot room with a boot dryer, and for families, the children’s club, playroom and puppet theatre are very welcome additions.

Vorarlberg, Lech am Arlberg
Severin’s – The Alpine Retreat

A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, this nine-suite retreat offers romantic seclusion, nearly a mile and a half from the centre of Lech. Crafted from Tyrolean wood, stone and copper, Severins has a cosy feel, yet with state of the art technology. A carefully curated collection of artworks, heated ski lockers and La Biosthetique bath products add to the sense of finery here. Organic, local produce forms the base of the regional modern dishes created in the restaurant, paired with wines from a cellar housing around 3000 bottles. And a large spa includes a long indoor pool with a counter-current function, a waterfall, and a jacuzzi tub.

Vorarlberg, Lech am Arlberg
Post Lech Arlberg

A boutique five-star hotel, the Gasthof Post is full of history, as evidenced by the many antiques and features. It has a quintessentially Austrian exterior, chalet-style and has been a part of the prestigious Relais & Chateaux collection since 1976, hosted by the Moosbrugger Family for eight decades. Contemporary haute cuisine by Chef David Wagger is presented in the venue’s three restaurants. Outside, verdant botanic gardens with extensive mountain views surround an outdoor heated pool, adjacent to the Badehaus Spa, beauty salon and yoga room. A super choice for families, the hotel has a playground, organised activities for kids, a water slide – and guests can bring their well-behaved pets along too.

Vorarlberg, Lech am Arlberg
Hotel Arlberg Lech

The Prince and Princess of Wales once stayed at Hotel Arlberg with their two sons. Its discreet yet central setting is ideal for those wanting to be close to the action, yet needing enhanced privacy. An outdoor pool with loungers and parasols, along with tennis courts makes it suitable for year-round – not just ski – vacations. The spa’s stunning natural wood and Alpine granite interiors earned the German Design Award. It houses an additional pool, hydrotherapy showers and relaxation rooms. By night, guests are treated to sumptuous candlelit dinners, with hearty Alpine breakfasts served daily in the restaurant. Sleep in one of Arlberg’s 51 completely unique rooms – from singles through to suites.

Salzburg, Sankt Johann im Pongau
Hotel Tannenhof

Housed in a classic chalet-style building, the five-star Hotel Tannenhof has a regal feel inside (quite possibly due to many pops of the traditionally royal colours purple and red throughout its textiles). Its spa was completely redesigned five years ago, it has stunning mountain views, luxury holistic treatments, indoor and outdoor pools – the former with a counter-current system and the latter with a natural hot spring – 16 treatment cabins and an aroma steam bath. Guests can enjoy Alpine haute cuisine, suites with private balconies and a Maserati chauffeur-driven private car service.

Tyrol, Saint Anton am Arlberg
Raffl’s Tyrol Hotel
With a distinctively retro vibe, this hotel is funky, yet elegant. It’s quirky, with many mid-century furnishings and luxe in-suite features, like spiral glass showers, free-standing bathtubs and living rooms with open fireplaces. The finest form of accommodation is a two bedroom Roof-Top Grand Suite. While this extra space suits families, in general, this property is preferred by couples. Guests staying here have the benefit of accessing all the facilities at the Tyrol’s sister hotel, Raffl’s St. Antoner Hof, the first on our list. The hotels have the same three restaurant styles too and while there’s no spa on site here, there is a steam bath and sauna cabins.

Tyrol, Saint Anton am Arlberg
Mooser Hotel

This is one of few ski in ski out properties in St Anton. Mooser is perched at the foot of the mountain, close to the Galzig cable car. But it isn’t only the location that sets this hotel apart, a highlight is the outdoor heated infinity pool that was built into the rock of the gorge. As such, the views are dreamy. So too are the vistas from the top-floor restaurant and bar. Huge windows provide a prime outlook, in decorative surroundings crafted in part, from reclaimed wood. Mooser’s interior design is artistic and contemporary, not least as it was only built in 2011. And it’s fully soundproofed providing a cocoon-like experience once inside. There’s also a spa incorporating an infrared sauna, dry heat sauna, rock sauna and steam room.
