Courchevel is the crème de la crème of alpine France’s Les Trois Vallees, the largest linked ski area in the world. With 24 luxury 5-star hotels, two 6-star ‘palace’ hotels, seven Michelin-starred restaurants and more luxury designer names than you could fit in a Birkin, it couldn’t get more luxe if it tried.
Courchevel refers to four villages, each at ascending altitudes, Courchevel La Praz, Courchevel Village, Courchevel Moriond and at the highest point, Courchevel. The ski season runs between early December to late March. As befits such a high-end resort, Courchevel’s pistes are perfectly manicured, and considered to be the best groomed anywhere in the Alps. And as around 85% of the ski area sits above 1,800 meters, good snow is guaranteed throughout the season. All skiing abilities are catered for within 150km of varied terrain, served by more that 55 ski lifts and over 100 runs. And with easy access to the rest of Les Trois Vallees, you’ll never be stuck for ski options.
Nor will you be stuck for things to do après ski. If you’re a non-skier, or fancy trying something different, there are pedestrian lift passes providing access to winter walking trails, and dog sleds, skidoos and segways that let you enjoy the slopes without the effort. Aquamotion, an indoor/outdoor waterpark with heated pools, wave surfing and water slides, and a climbing wall is a major attraction in the area.

L’apogée Courchevel

This hotel has a unique position on top of what was once an Olympic ski jump. Part of the Oetker Collection, it’s palatial, with a resort feel – there’s a beauty and hair salon, La Prairie spa, pool, salt sauna, boutiques, a smoking room and the largest children’s club in Courchevel. L’apogée has 53 guest rooms, a penthouse and two private chalets. Sushi is prepared in its restaurant, Koori (meaning ‘ice’ in Japanese), with French fare at Le Comptoir L’Apogée. By day Le Bar de L’Apogée serves light lunches, while by night the venue becomes a cocktail lounge accompanied by the sounds of live singers and DJs.
