Following a two-year, multi-million dollar renovation The Langham, Boston opens its doors once more. The American classic hotel is located at 250 Franklin Street in the former Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and still retains some of the original architectural and interior features. All guest rooms and suites have been completely redesigned with New England-inspired décor and marble-clad bathrooms. Guests can relax in the luxurious new lobby, decorated in jewel tones, with a cozy fireplace or enjoy craft cocktails and elevated pub grub at The Fed – the hotel’s new destination luxe cocktail club. GRANA is the new Italian restaurant, which sits in the former great hall of the bank and is architecturally breathtaking. The Little Nell

Arguably the hippest hotspot in town, this minimalist property is the only five-star, five-diamond hotel in Aspen. As part of the Relais & Chateaux collection, it has an incredible food and drink offer. Element 47 serves New American cuisine, with a choice of over 20,000 different wines to accompany the meal (guests can also tour the funky red-lit wine cellar). Lighter meals are offered in the firelit Living Room, at Chair 9 – the hotel’s late-night club venue – and Ajax Tavern. The rooms and suites have been styled by Champalimaud Design and all have cosy gas log fireplaces.

If you’re looking for a party pad, this is it. W’s clubby Living Room has a silver-coloured DJ booth, in the basement, there’s a cocktail bar and the 39˚ nightclub, while the rooftop poolside WET Deck also features regular DJs after dark along with multiple fire pits. Bedrooms (ordered by the categories of Wonderful, Spectacular, Fabulous, Wow, and Extreme Wow) come with hangover kits, their own cocktail shakers to mix up the minibar and Bose speakers. The dining style at W is laid back but trendy – tuck into ‘trash bowls’, raclette, gourmet nachos, lobster and goat cheese ravioli and spiced cauliflower fritters with grilled peaches. The architecture of the W is a modern take on the traditional mountain chalet-style hotel.

Occupying a prime ski-in/ski-out location, the Viceroy offers upscale accommodations in Snowmass Village, just a little outside of Aspen’s centre. Ideal for families and those wanting to self-cater, rooms come with kitchenettes and there’s a daily programme of activities for younger guests. But there are also two eateries on-site – the fine dining Eight K Restaurant and a poolside Asian inspired cafe, Nest. After-dinner drinks can be taken alfresco, or indoors beside a roaring fire. The huge spa spans a total of 7,000-square-feet, incorporating plunge pools, a Vichy wet room, jacuzzis and a blissful relaxation suite. Outside, there‘s a heated saline pool with a fire pit and cabanas.

Mandarin Oriental Boston

Centrally located beside the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, the Mandarin Oriental sports a modern style with vintage early 20th century touches. Head to the fourth floor to visit the 6,000-square-foot spa – quite possibly the best in the city. Aromatherapy Associates and Linda Meredith products are used for the therapies and there’s a large suite for couples’ treatments. Bar Boulud features a wall of windows and European meets New England cuisine designed by the restaurant’s namesake chef, Daniel Boulud. Following the hotel’s family-friendly credentials, children’s menus are also provided. 148 rooms and public areas are all fully accessible and the hotel and spa have been awarded Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Stars.

The Liberty, a Luxury Collection Hotel

The Liberty’s previous life – as the Charles Street jail – is evidenced throughout the building, in the trendiest urban-chic style. Dating back to 1851, the building was renovated to form a 298 bedroom hotel in 2007. Everything revolves around the atrium of the lobby, the central hub of the old slammer, in which live music, fashions shows and art displays are frequent occurrences. Guests can choose to stay in a ‘jail room’ or in the new wing, and enjoy drinks and food at the aptly named Alibi and Clink.

Offering villa living within a hotel complex, each of the 37 residences here has at least three bedrooms and a pool. There’s a whole retail avenue inside, including shops, a Starbucks and a healthy cafe. A brand renowned for its culinary offer, this Four Seasons holds up its reputation. Ravello serves fine Mediterranean cuisine alongside fine vintages – as well as hosting a bi-weekly Disney character breakfast. Stay here and you can enjoy the early entry theme park privilege otherwise reserved for Disney’s own on-site hotels. You’ll be transferred via private coach service from this gated community to the four parks. The architecture is reminiscent of Spain, while interior decor echoes contemporary Italian style. Two infinity pools enable families and adults to enjoy some sun-time separately – the child-friendly one has waterslides and a lazy river.
