Four Seasons Seattle
(5 stars)With around the clock business centre, this is often the hotel of choice for those visiting for work. However, there’s plenty to attract guests staying for leisure purposes: an infinity pool with views over the Pugent Sound, a state of the art spa and fitness suite, accessible spaces, an excellent restaurant excelling in sea fare and attentive service. It’s just across from the Seattle Art Museum and a block from the waterfront, with most attractions within striding distance. 147 bedrooms have been recently refurbished to create a chic, understated ambience in soothing tones, with contemporary art works.

Loews Hotel 1000
(5 stars)Stay downtown on First Avenue, at this modern establishment that boasts features including an interactive golf simulator, a spa, welcome gifts for younger children and a seafood and oyster bar. On arrival at Loews Hotel 1000, guests are greeted by a striking contemporary lobby area complete with hundreds of glass water-like droplets hung from the ceiling and a modern art style desk, while being handed a glass of chilled bubbly. The colour palette is dusky and serene, very conducive to relaxation, with many rooms boasting epic views, enjoyed while soaking in a freestanding tub.
Tennessee, Nashville
JW Marriott Nashville
(5 stars)34 storeys of gleaming skyscraper make up this four-storey Marriott property. 570 rooms come with 55 inch TVs providing Netflix, Hulu and satellite channels. Guests can drink outdoors on the terrace beside the pool, warmed by the flames of the fire pit, shop at Bells & Whistles the hotel’s boutique and dine at the very top of the building, in the Bourbon Steak restaurant and Sky Bar. Sleek, high-end rooms are complemented by marble bathrooms, epic views and arrival gifts, with hairdressing services available in-suite. While children are accommodated, the JW Marriott is more of a grown-up property.

The Joseph, A Luxury Collection Hotel
(5 stars)Found in the SoBro district of Nashville’s Downtown, The Joseph is named after the hotel brand’s forefather. Style is at the forefront here – even the staff’s uniforms have been exclusively designed. There are huge sculptures, immersive digital installations, living green walls, original artworks commissioned especially for the hotel and a curated range of goodies in the 297 bedroom’s minibars. Dining is also an art form; Yolan is the in-house signature restaurant (with its own cheese ‘cave’), serving refined Italian dishes, accompanied by vinos from the chilled glass-surrounded wine cellar. The rooftop is home to the indoor-outdoor Denim lounge and the Rose wellness centre.

Omni Nashville Hotel
(4 stars)The huge 854-bedroom Omni is, like The Joseph, a native of SoBro. Its size allows for a wide scope of choice under one roof: multiple eating venues including a chophouse and Southern-themed restaurant, a live music bar, boutiques, a pool, spa, fitness centre and art galleries. Families are well looked after with a Kids’ Crew programme of activities and treats in the rooms. Access to the Music City Center and Country Music Hall of Fame is gained directly from the hotel and you can see some memorabilia in-house, as the lobby is adorned with framed costumes worn by notable musicians.
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
The Rittenhouse Hotel
(5 stars)Named after its location just off Rittenhouse Square, the Rittenhouse is a paradise for pet lovers — personalised bowls, treats baked on the premises and bookable dog walkers or sitters, ensure Fido is as pampered as you are. Meanwhile, humans can receive their share of indulgence at the sleek, contemporary spa and pool. 118 bedrooms are, by contrast, decorated in a more classical style at the Forbes Four-Star hotel, some with four-poster beds. Guests can feast on five-course tasting menus at The Rittenhouse’s fine-dining venue Lacroix, or eat at one of three further venues.

Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia At Comcast Center
(5 stars)Rising 60 storeys and 1121-feet into the Philadelphia skyline, is the Comcast Center. The Four Seasons occupies the building from the 48th floor, ensuring guests have incredible views (this is the highest altitude you’ll reach in a North American hotel). 180 rooms and 39 suites have floor to ceiling windows, app-based tech, smart controls and Guerlain toiletries. The crystal-encrusted health and wellness centre resides on the 57th floor, complete with Peloton bikes and a dreamy pool. The Ritz-Carlton, Philadelphia
(5 stars)Set in one of Philly’s aforementioned historic buildings, The Ritz was once the Girard Trust Bank. As such, the public rooms are grand and imperious, with 301 bedrooms taking on a softer, more contemporary feel. The Richel D’Ambra Spa & Salon is very well respected in beauty circles and there’s a Latin-American restaurant in the lobby, to treat your tastebuds. As there’s only one restaurant, if you want access to a further lounge (with complimentary food), you’ll need to book a club suite. While the hotel may look formal, it offers a relaxed approach for families, with an Ocean Futures kids club offering environmentally-themed activities.
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
The Logan Philadelphia, Curio Collection By Hilton
(4 stars)Another hotel taking its name from an adjacent square (itself named after statesman James Logan), this hotel is found Downtown. Art is important here, with carefully curated works hung throughout the building. 391 rooms – with a minimum of 400 square feet of space each – are decorated in dark greys and whites, with a pop of colour coming through soft yellow logo detailing. Larger suites include luxuries like private balconies, large dining areas, pool tables, grand pianos and sweeping city views. Four eating and drinking establishments are offered, with small plates served at the ninth-floor rooftop bar and restaurant and there’s an underground spa.

Louisiana, New Orleans, French Quarter (Vieux Carré)
The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans
(5 stars)Stay at the Ritz-Carlton where in-house live jazz comes as standard. This used to be an upmarket department store until the grand Beaux-Arts building was transformed into an elegant hotel. It’s on the fringes of the French Quarter, offering easy access to all areas of the city. Guests can dine in the M Bistro and wine in the Davenport Lounge, while those residing in higher grade rooms also have access to a Club Level lounge.
