The property is part of the Crerar Hotels Group, which specialises in bringing Spiorad na h-Alba (the spirit of Scotland) to its visitors. Its Loch Fyne residence has been welcoming guests since 1846 and retains that sense of a bygone era, yet with a newly refurbished spa space and 21st-century mod cons in its stylish bedrooms and suites. There are many nods to the area’s history — photos of clam diggers and fisherpeople adorn the walls, and you’ll find plenty of soft-hued tartan incorporated into the hygge-friendly decor.

Modern Bedrooms and Traditional Suites

The hotel’s guest quarters reflect the surrounding highland landscape, with contemporary bedrooms ranging from petit doubles to classics and delux and more traditional suites each with their own names.

Inside, you’ll be greeted with bath products from the Highland Soap Company, Tunnock’s sweet treats, cafetière coffee (Nespresso in suites) and fine infusions from the Wee Tea Company in the room, along with super soft bedding for a sound night’s sleep.

For more space choose a characterful suite in the original part of the hotel; like Glen Ord or Lagavulin, looking over the loch and Cowal Hills beyond, or the slightly quirkier Hens Coup, with an apex-beamed ceiling and shaped feature windows. Fluffy robes and slippers are also provided for home-from-home comfort when visiting the spa.

Of course one of the first things on your agenda when staying beside Loch Fyne, will be a hearty helping of the freshly caught seafood, for which the area is so well known. It comes straight from the boat to the door, where chefs prepare mouthwatering dishes, often using the super high heat, in-house Spanish Josper charcoal-fired grill. The menus also include farm-assured Buccleuch beef with 28-day aged steaks, Lammermuir Luing beef and red deer venison from Loch Fyne’s Crerar Home Farm. Dine throughout the day at the Cladach Mòr Bistro (meaning ‘great shore’ in Gaelic), with its roaring fire, rustic stone walls and loch views.

Then take a seat on a comfy leather sofa in the adjacent bar, where you can sample native ale, malt whiskies and gins, warmed by the wood burner. Champagne afternoon teas are also a highlight of the culinary offer at Loch Fyne and complement a spa day perfectly…

When you’re ready for some aqua therapy, take a dip in the jetted 15-metre swimming pool as you gaze over the loch. Relax on curved heated loungers, book a slot in the Salt Room, take an experience shower, use the steam room and soak outdoors in the hot tub on the hotel’s sun deck. Treatments at the spa use organic Hebridean seaweed-based skin products by ishga. And those staying in certain suites can book a hot in-room mineral bath with fresh, hand-harvested seaweed too.
