One of Mayfair’s most historic addresses will welcome hotel guests for the first time next year, as Cambridge House, Auberge Collection opens reservations ahead of its planned February 2027 debut.
The opening will mark Auberge Collection’s first hotel in London, taking over the former Naval and Military Club at 94 Piccadilly. Positioned between Green Park and Shepherd Market, Cambridge House forms part of Reuben Brothers’ £1 billion regeneration of the Piccadilly Estate, a project that brings together several historic properties.
At its centre is Cambridge House itself, a Grade I-listed Palladian-style Georgian mansion commissioned in 1756. Over the centuries, the house has had an extraordinary collection of residents and visitors. Prince Adolphus, Duke of Cambridge, lived here during the 19th century, Queen Victoria was among its royal guests, and Prime Minister Lord Palmerston later used it as his London home.
In 1865, the building became home to the Naval and Military Club. Better known as the In & Out Club, a nickname taken from the signs that marked its carriage entrance and exit, it remained here until 1999. Its transformation into a hotel will open the historic house to overnight guests for the first time.
The hotel incorporates a collection of neighbouring historic properties, creating an extravagant Mayfair address, which features 102 rooms, 24 of them suites, while retaining Cambridge House as its centrepiece.
The most impressive accommodation will be found on the Piano Nobile, the principal floor of the original house. Six historic suites come together to create around 6,500 sq. ft of space, allowing guests to experience Cambridge House much as its former residents might have done, surrounded by the proportions and architectural details of the original mansion.
Food will be a significant part of the hotel too. Major’s will occupy the restored Georgian ballroom and adjoining courtyard. The restaurant will bring the Major Food Group’s take on the American chophouse together with elements of the traditional London grill, with British meat, fish and game alongside seafood and caviar.
Traditional touches are being made specifically for the restaurant. British craftspeople have been commissioned to produce bespoke china and trolleys used to carve spit-roasted Prime Rib. Martinis will be something of a speciality, with more than ten variations planned for the bar.
Below ground, Baeden House will introduce Auberge Collection’s wellbeing concept to London across three floors. Its design draws on Roman bathhouses, with a heated swimming pool, hydrotherapy facilities and six treatment rooms. A circular relaxation lounge will have a fire pit at its centre, while a gym, wet and heat rooms and a bathhouse complete the facilities.
Cambridge House will also have a private members’ club, although this will follow the opening later in 2027. Together with its restaurants, bars and wellness facilities, it suggests the property will be positioned as somewhere for Londoners as much as overnight guests – something that feels particularly fitting for a building that spent more than a century as one of the capital’s private clubs.
For Auberge Collection, Cambridge House brings the brand into one of Europe’s most competitive luxury hotel markets. Its London debut follows European properties including Grace Hotel in Santorini, Domaine des Etangs in France and Collegio alla Querce in Florence.
Yet the history behind 94 Piccadilly makes this opening particularly interesting. Few new London hotels arrive with a building that has already spent more than 250 years at the centre of the city’s social and political life. When Cambridge House begins welcoming hotel guests in 2027, they won’t simply be staying in Mayfair, but within a house that has played its own part in London’s history.
