Mandarin Oriental opens its first Balearic resort in Mallorca

Mandarin Oriental welcomed its first guests to Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca last month, opening a new beachfront resort on the island’s coveted southwest coastline. It marks the group’s first resort in the Balearic Islands and its third property in Spain, following Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona and Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid (read review here).

Set in Calvià, close to the exclusive Puerto Portals marina known for its regattas and fine dining, the resort occupies the site of the historic Hotel Punta Negra. Framed by Aleppo pine trees and secluded coves, the location has long been prized for its sweeping Mediterranean views.

The resort comprises 131 rooms and suites, across five buildings inspired by the island’s history and pine forests. Some have private pools, each offering sea views and a close connection to the surrounding gardens and coastal terrain. You can arrive by private yacht transfer before making use of an art pathway linking galleries and site-specific installations, or exploring the island via its golf courses and cycling routes. Tennis courts by the sea and yoga overlooking Punta Negra’s coastline round out a programme built around Mallorca’s outdoor life.

Six dining destinations are led by internationally acclaimed chefs including Nobu Matsuhisa and Dani García, each bringing a distinct culinary identity that draws on Mallorca’s own food culture, where dining is treated as a daily ritual rather than an afterthought.
