Hyatt has expanded its luxury footprint in Southeast Asia with the opening of THE BARAI HUA HIN, marking the first Thai property to join The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
Set on Hua Hin’s peaceful Khao Takiap coastline, the boutique beachfront retreat occupies one of Thailand’s most historic seaside destinations. Long favoured by Thai royalty as an escape from Bangkok, Hua Hin combines a relaxed coastal atmosphere with a rich cultural heritage, and THE BARAI aims to reflect both through its design-led approach to wellness and hospitality.
Originally opened as a destination spa 20 years ago, THE BARAI has earned an international reputation for its immersive approach to wellness and striking architecture. Designed by acclaimed Thai architect Lek Bunnag, the property was conceived as a journey of discovery, with a series of interconnected spaces that use light, shadow and movement to create a calm, contemplative atmosphere. Now reimagined as a standalone boutique resort within The Unbound Collection, it offers 98 guestrooms and suites while preserving the restorative experience that first made it a destination in its own right.
That philosophy continues throughout the spa experience. The multi award-winning spa features 18 treatment rooms, hydrotherapy facilities and personalised wellness programmes inspired by the balance of the four elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire. Signature treatments combine traditional Thai healing practices with contemporary therapies, while yoga, tai chi and mindfulness encourage guests to restore both body and mind, whether visiting for a single treatment or a longer wellness retreat.
Dining is equally rooted in Hua Hin’s history and coastal setting. McFarland House occupies a beautifully restored 19th-century beachfront pavilion that dates back to the reign of King Rama VI. Today, it serves modern European cuisine, expertly grilled meats and one of Hua Hin’s best-known Sunday brunches, all overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. Inspired by the seaside summer cottages that once lined Hua Hin’s shoreline, White Cottage evokes the town’s golden era, blending coastal charm with a menu that showcases the region’s freshest seafood and locally sourced produce.
