The double-height glass doors fold open, making the space part of the city, inviting passers-by to drop in for a glass of chilled wine or a tasty bite to eat. This is where the city meets.

The menu showcases the classic kitchen of southern Spain but presents it in a contemporary, stylish way. Expect superb seafood, almadraba tuna, cured hams, and popular tapas like croquettes and salads.

Lola is the 7th-floor Mediterranean restaurant of the hotel, focusing on local produce, prepared on the kitchen’s charcoal grills.

Expect first-class ingredients prepared in innovative ways, like the almadraba bluefin tuna served as tacos, or steak tartare with smoked ham. The artichokes roasted in the charcoal oven with fine Andalucian extra virgin olive oil and a touch of salt are superb!

Architectural Malaga

Malaga was once maligned for its lack of charm, yet finally, the city is being recognised for its architectural merits. The centre’s old town is a delight, and the main thoroughfare, Calle Larios, is an elegant and sophisticated pedestrianised street that leads directly to Only YOU Malaga, within the now fully restored landmark La Equititiva building. Here Art Deco elements have been enhanced with a contemporary urban Mediterranean design that defines the hotel.

Views are of the main Boulevard, Calle Larios, or the port. Soundproofing is good. Some rooms have terrace balconies too.

I was impressed by the king bed, immaculately prepared with pressed linens. The rooms are elegant yet with a personality that is so much part of the spirit of Only YOU, from the playful bathrobes to the thoughtful welcome amenity, including a personalised city guide, presented as a newspaper.
