Set on Ibiza’s serene northern coast, Cala San Miguel Ibiza Resort offers a stylish and laid-back luxury resort, shaped by the island’s more tranquil side. Behind the property’s recent evolution is Vanesa Regueira, whose career in hospitality has taken her from the Canary Islands to the White Isle, culminating in her current role overseeing this newly reimagined five-star property. With 292 rooms and a distinctive adults-only ethos, the resort is home to The Club, a more personalised experience. We met with Vanesa to discuss her journey, the island’s shifting tourism dynamics, and how Cala San Miguel is offering a slower, more soulful side of Ibiza, with a focus on meaningful experiences.
Can you share a bit about your background in hospitality and what drew you to Cala San Miguel Ibiza Resort?
I’ve worked in hospitality since I was 18, starting with jobs such as receptionist and waiter in the Canary Islands. These early experiences gave me an understanding of guest needs and the day-to-day rhythm of hotel life. After several years of hands-on learning, I realised I wanted to lead and shape the guest experience on a broader level, which led me to study hotel management. Once I graduated, I knew there was no other industry for me, this was more than a job, it was a calling. My professional journey took me from Lanzarote to Ibiza, including seven years with Ocean Drive, where I managed several properties. Joining Cala San Miguel Ibiza Resort felt like a natural next step – an opportunity to lead an exciting, evolving project in one of the island’s most tranquil corners.
What do you find most inspiring about working in the vibrant hospitality scene of Ibiza?
From fincas to world-class five-star resorts, the diversity here is unmatched. For those of us in the industry, it’s a place that constantly pushes you to stay informed, innovative and responsive. New openings and trends emerge each season, so there’s always something fresh to engage with. I love being in an environment where you have the opportunity to surprise guests who are already used to high standards. It’s inspiring to be part of a destination that’s so forward-thinking while still rooted in its traditions.
The resort is described as a “Resort For The Soul” with a focus on laidback luxury and authentic experiences. How does this philosophy influence the approach to guest services and experiences?
We are based in the north of Ibiza, a part of the island that feels entirely different from the south. Unlike the party-focused south, this part of the island is peaceful, with dramatic coastal landscapes and a deeper connection to nature. Our aim is to provide experiences that reflect the authentic spirit of Ibiza, the kind that lured free-spirited travellers to the island decades ago.
Whether it’s morning yoga sessions, cacao ceremonies, or guided paddleboarding at sunset, everything is curated to slow things down and encourage mindfulness. Our team focuses on intuitive, personal service that adapts to the pace and mood of each guest, helping them feel grounded and revitalised.
How would you position The Club within the Cala San Miguel Ibiza Resort? Would you say it’s a hotel within a hotel?
That’s a great way to describe it. Previously, we had two separate hotels which we merged this year into one resort. The Club is a premium offering within the wider property. It’s more than a room category – it’s a tailored experience. Guests have enhanced amenities, pre-arrival concierge service, and benefits like access to both breakfast restaurants and preferred sunbed placement at the new Beach House. It’s a more personalised and elevated stay.
How does The Club differentiate itself from other luxury offerings at the resort?
We’re the only five-star property on the island offering a full programme of complimentary activities. This is key to retaining guests on-site. Our guests enjoy wellness classes, guided experiences and cultural sessions as part of their stay, all included. It sets us apart from other resorts where these are often add-ons.
Can you walk us through the different room categories and key benefits for guests staying at The Club?
There are five categories. You’ll find Deluxe Sea View Rooms, Club Junior Suites, Swim-Up Rooms and Junior Suites with private pools and sea views. Guests booking these premium suites enjoy added benefits like complimentary airport transfers and use of a Fiat 500 Cabrio during their stay. We want it to feel seamless, luxurious, and full of thoughtful touches.
The new Beach House Cala San Miguel is opening this summer. What can guests expect?
It’s the only beachfront venue of its kind in the north of Ibiza. We can’t call it a beach club due to local regulations, but it functions similarly with Mediterranean cuisine, great drinks and a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. It’s open to non-residents, but guests of The Club won’t need to meet the minimum spend. It’s another way we offer something extra for our premium guests.
Wellness is a key component of the resort’s offerings. How is wellness integrated into the guest experience?
We’ve partnered with Natura Bissé for our spa treatments and use non-chemical, natural products. There are two gyms on-site and options for personal training, Pilates and more. During the high season, we also offer outdoor treatments. The focus is on natural wellness, aligning with the ethos of the resort.
What does luxury mean to you?
Luxury is having what you want, when you want it, without delay. It’s not about big brands or extravagance. For me, it’s about creating an atmosphere where everything feels seamless, whether it’s enjoying a coffee without waiting or being in a place where the music and energy make you feel exactly where you want to be.
Finally, what is your life motto?
It’s a work in progress, but I’ve always believed that if you want something, you have to work hard for it. I never imagined I’d be managing a property like this, but through focus and determination, I’ve built the career I dreamed of. So I would say: build your dreams and work hard to achieve them.
