Monte Mulini Adults Exclusive Hotel by Maistra Collection

TLE had a weekend in Rovinj, Croatia last weekend and was lucky enough to experience two of the town’s top hotels, The Lone and Hotel Monte Mulini. You can read about our full experience and the Lone review as well.

The Monte Mulini is probably fair to say the jewel in the Maistra hotel group’s crown. Standing snugly between crystal clear blue water and stunning forest behind, the Monte Mulini has taken 5-star luxury to an exceptional level from the moment you arrive till the moment you leave.

What to Expect

If you read about our stay at the Maistra Lone Hotel, you will see that the Mulini’s neighbour the Lone is all about the latest contemporary design. The Monte Mulini is softer in approach. As you enter the main foyer, this mezzanine level reception area connects with the bar downstairs and floor-to-ceiling windows allow light to stream in both floors and provide a magnificent view out to the pool and sea beyond. Combined with soft furnishing and wood, stone and tile finishes allow the hotel’s communal areas to be calming, warm and relaxing.

Check-In and Welcome

We travelled by car to the hotel, as we arrived at the hotel drive we were greeted by a doorman and our bars were taken away into the hotel. Welcomed into the hotel we made our way to a reception desk, we drank some lime-flavoured water which was much needed as it was hot outside today.

Again like the Lone – free wifi in all areas of the hotel, pool and communal areas no need to log in.

The Room

All rooms in the hotel have a sea view, so no looking out onto a wall or courtyards, just magnificent views out to the Adriatic Sea. The hotel offers 98 rooms and 15 suites. Rooms come in premium, executive, deluxe and family.

Our room was a generous size at 39spm including a balcony with additional seating and like the communal areas of the building was finished in warm neutral tones and textures.

The bathroom was larger than you normally get in a standard hotel room, with twin sinks, large bath and separate rain and hand shower. There was also a little stool you could use to help you get dressed.

Bathroom amenities were Molton Brown and the bathroom came with two sets of each product.

Each room has a perfect view out to the pool and sea, and allows you the best view of the sun setting in the evening.

Some of the little finishing touches I liked

I like the little Molton Brown face wash that was left on either side of the bed when the room was turned in the evening.

There was also complementary water and local sweets as a room welcome on arrival.

It was a nice idea that the wardrobes in the room was dual access so you could open them from both the room and bathroom area.

Rest of the Hotel

Bar – The hotel has a lobby bar and balcony area and on the evening we were there there was a grand paino being played.

Restaurant – The hotel offers two dining experiences, the Restuaran Vault in the basement and also the Mediterraneo with a balcony looking out to the pool area. We ate in the evening at the Mediterraneo. In my opinion it is quite telling of the standard of a hotel by its food and their creativity of vegetarian food or diet specific food as well.

The restaurant had tailored a menu to order for us. I was in love with the main course which was tofu that had been hand smoked and cooked with asparagus and a cream sauce. I spoke to the chef and they said that the menu was also going to include gluten-free alternatives soon as well.

We sat outside in the balcony for dinner and enjoyed sampling wine from a number of Croatia’s local vineyards, so skip any old or new world favourites and try the country’s own, you won’t be disappointed.

Pool – I loved the pool area, in fact I was so relaxed I feel asleep on a lounger for two hours! The area is made up of 4 individual pools and a separate area for children, there is also a bar area and the pools are infinity pools which connect your eye with the sea beyond.

Spa – We didn’t try the spa area in the hotel, time ran away with us, but guests from the hotel have access to their own spa and pool as well as using the Wellness Centre at the Lone too, which is interconnecting with the hotel.  In addition you can choose from one of many massage and cosmetic treatments on offer.

Breakfast – My favourite meal of the day? Most definitely in a hotel…. The Mulini offers a substantial buffet breakfast. choose from cheeses, continental breads, bircher muesli (one of my favourites), through to meats, fish, salads and if you are Glaswegian like me, you will have instantly spied that they offer prosecco for breakfast to make that all-important bucks fizz with!

Hot dishes are made to order and make sure you take a balcony seat, what better view to start the way with!

What made it special?

Location, the area’s natural beauty and the hotel’s quality make a visit here something quite special.

The Finances

A night at the Hotel Monte Mulini starts at €204 per night (approx. £144), including breakfast and VAT.

Would I recommend it?

I would recommend the Hotel Monte Mulini and the sister hotel the Lone in a second. Having been my first time to Croatia, the country is a surprise, its natural beauty is astonishing, Rovinj is picture postcard perfect and the Hotel Monte Mulini is the ideal relaxing retreat.
