Even though autumn is in the air, there is no reason not to hold onto summer’s celebratory spirit with a glass of Roebuck Estates’ Rare Expressions No.96. This is one of the most distinctive English sparkling wines currently available, a cuvée that rewards both patience and craftsmanship. Only 1,600 individually numbered bottles exist, adding to its rarity and appeal for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Made from fruit harvested in 2014, the wine has been aged on lees for an extraordinary 96 months before release. This prolonged maturation has produced a sparkling wine that reflects the season in which it was created while gaining remarkable complexity over time. The blend of Chardonnay (47%), Pinot Noir (38%) and Pinot Meunier (15%) was carefully handpicked and whole-bunch pressed, with a portion fermented in aged Burgundian oak barrels, bringing added depth.
Golden in colour with delicate bubbles and a velvety texture, Rare Expressions No.96 offers notes of baked apple, honey and biscuit, lifted with hints of toasted walnuts and candied citrus peel. The intricate label design echoes the wine’s journey through time, a visual expression of its evolving richness.
Already featured at leading establishments including The Savoy, Mandarin Oriental and The Fat Duck, Rare Expressions No.96 demonstrates why Roebuck Estates has become one of the most exciting names in English sparkling wine.
Priced at £95 per bottle it is available to buy through the Roebuck Estates website
