Royal Salute has released the final instalment in its celebrated Majestic Kingdom Collection with the release of the Royal Salute 26 Year Old Colheita Port Cask Finish. This new expression brings the trilogy to a close with a flourish, marking the brand’s first-ever whisky finished in Colheita Port casks.
The limited edition pays tribute to the former Kingdom of Portugal, celebrating its grandeur, craftsmanship, and timeless artistry. It also reflects the enduring spirit of Royal Salute, a house that has long stood for innovation within the world of luxury Scotch. Founded in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, Royal Salute’s legacy has been built on precision, patience, and the pursuit of perfection.
At the heart of this new creation lies an intricate maturation process. The blend, aged for a minimum of 26 years, has been fully finished in hand-selected Colheita Port casks sourced from a renowned winery in Portugal’s Douro Valley. Known for producing exceptional single-vintage Ports, these casks impart a distinctive sweetness and depth, enriching the whisky with layers of dark fruit, honeyed spice, and toasted nuts. The result is a complex yet harmonious spirit that lingers long on the palate.
The nose reveals an elegant medley of stewed pears, spiced orange, glazed cherries, and fig jam, accented by marzipan and nutmeg. On the palate, flavours of ripe plums, blueberries, and creamy toffee unfold, complemented by hints of orange peel, hazelnut, and warming spice. The finish is long, sweet, and delicately dry, a final flourish that speaks to its careful craftsmanship.
Each decanter is a piece of artistry in its own right. The deep cobalt flagon, inspired by Portugal’s iconic azulejo tiles, captures the movement of the Douro River and the vast Atlantic Ocean in swirling shades of blue. The design reflects both cultural heritage and contemporary luxury, making this a standout collector’s piece in the Royal Salute portfolio.
Completing a trilogy that includes the 26-Year-Old Scottish Oak Cask Finish and the 26-Year-Old Amarone Wine Cask Finish, this release marks a fitting conclusion to the Majestic Kingdom Collection. It embodies the essence of exploration and refinement that has defined the series, bringing together Scotland’s mastery of ageing with Portugal’s storied winemaking tradition.
