Four Seasons is set to return to the German capital with the announcement of a new hotel in Berlin, created in partnership with Gruppo Statuto. The project will see the historic Hotel de Rome in Mitte transformed into Four Seasons Hotel Berlin, with a planned opening in late 2027.
The move marks the brand’s first presence in the city for two decades and represents one of the most significant luxury hospitality developments currently underway in Europe. Once complete, the hotel will bring a new level of contemporary elegance to Bebelplatz, while maintaining the building’s original character and impressive 19th-century frontage.
Alejandro Reynal, President and Chief Executive Officer at Four Seasons, notes the importance of the opening as part of the group’s European growth. He highlights Berlin’s relevance as a cultural capital and confirms the company’s continued commitment to the market, building once again on its longstanding relationship with luxury hotel developer, Gruppo Statuto.
The building began life as the headquarters of the former Dresdner Bank in the late 1800s before becoming a hotel in 2006. Its address on Bebelplatz is conveniently located near St Hedwig’s Cathedral and the Unter den Linden State Opera, with the Brandenburg Gate, Gendarmenmarkt and Museum Island all within easy reach. The property will operate as Hotel de Rome throughout 2026, with a phased renovation set to begin before its official reopening under the Four Seasons flag.
The transformation will include around 140 guest rooms and suites, as well as the hotel’s restaurants, bars and public spaces. Humbert and Poyet have been appointed to lead the design direction, blending the building’s heritage details with a contemporary aesthetic. Plans include three new dining concepts and a panoramic rooftop terrace overlooking the city’s architectural landmarks. The hotel’s spa will occupy the former jewel vault, creating a serene counterpoint to days spent exploring the German capital.
Events and celebrations will be supported by more than 1000 square metres of redesigned indoor and outdoor space. Conveniently located for international arrivals, the hotel sits less than an hour from Berlin Brandenburg Airport and within easy reach of the central station, which connects directly to major European cities.
Originally from Berlin, Christian Poda has been appointed General Manager and will oversee the transition. His 26-year Four Seasons career spans senior roles across Asia, most recently in Hong Kong with regional oversight of multiple properties in China.
Gruppo Statuto’s owner, Giuseppe Statuto, has confirmed the intention is to retain the property’s defining character and build on the success of the partnership’s previous (and current) projects in Milan, Taormina and the soon to open Danieli in Venice.
When it opens in 2027, Four Seasons Hotel Berlin is expected to become one of the capital’s most significant luxury landmarks, bringing a confident new chapter to one of its most storied addresses.
