Bladnoch, Scotland’s oldest privately owned Scotch whisky distillery, has released the second chapter in its innovative five-part series, The Wave Master Distiller’s Collection. Titled Wave II: Distillery & Spirit, this new expression continues a journey through the five core pillars of Bladnoch’s whisky-making philosophy, under the careful guidance of Master Distiller Dr Nick Savage.
While last year’s Wave I: Time & Maturation focused on the art of cask ageing, Wave II turns the spotlight on the spirit itself – the heart of the distillery’s Lowland character. Crafted using a combination of re-charred butts and first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, all brought together in the second of five Amontillado sherry tuns, this release reveals the distillery’s distinctive floral and fruity DNA. The blend is then bottled at 57% ABV, non-chill filtered, and natural in colour.
The result is a whisky that’s vibrant and expressive – a profile led by pear drops and summer barley on the nose, baked pineapple and ginger snaps on the palate, and a finish that’s floral, fresh and delicately spiced.
Founded in 1817, Bladnoch is often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Lowlands’ and has undergone a modern renaissance since its acquisition by entrepreneur David Prior in 2015. Under the watch of Dr Nick Savage, formerly of The Macallan, the distillery has earned international acclaim for its bold Galloway spirit and taste-first approach. Recent accolades include multiple double gold medals at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and gold at the World Whiskies Awards.
Only 1,817 bottles are available worldwide, paying homage to the year Bladnoch was founded. Priced at £125, the limited-edition release is available directly from the distillery and online at bladnoch.com with international shipping to over 30 countries.
