Style

The Chapel Flat is in a wing of the magnificent Broughton Hall, and includes the stunning Georgian chapel, where the Tempest family, who have lived in this area for over 1,000 years, have celebrated Mass throughout the centuries. A kitchen, lounge and various bedrooms are situated across an impressive corridor. The stunning, high-ceiling sitting room is decorated in the style of a monarch’s country residence (in fact, HM King Charles III and many royalty have previously visited Broughton), with lavish warming upholstery, ancient family paintings and a striking fireplace hailing from a bygone age. Adjacent is a thoroughly modern and unique kitchen diner complete with quirky and fun images, more in keeping with the spiritual ethos of the Sanctuary.

Rooms and Suites

The Master bedroom boasts a huge, ornate wooden four-poster bedframe, a glorious gold-painted fireplace and a gigantic marble bathroom with an ocean-deep bath complete with original, vintage taps and an awe-inspiring view of the Estate. The two extra bedrooms are equally beautifully furnished with stunning views and ensuite facilities. The ecological-friendly attitude of the Sanctuary owners is clear to see in the bathrooms with natural organic products Faith in Nature and the forest friendly Who Gives a Crap loo roll on display.

Food & Drink

Just a short stroll is Utopia, a unique, contemporary Sir Michael Hopkins’ designed glass bistro within an exquisitely manicured Walled Garden reinvented by Dan Pearson OBE. Utopia, run by genius caterers Yorkshire Nourishment, serves delicious breakfasts and lunches, using nourishing, plant-based foods. For breakfast we feasted on hearty bowls of porridge washed down with divine cups of latte from local coffee merchants Exchange Coffee, while mushroom risotto was a delicious lunch choice. Also, in walking distance on the Estate is a very welcoming cosy pub called The Bull Inn which serves a vast array of delicious homecooked food. The Chapel Flat itself, like all the properties at Broughton, have state of the art kitchen facilities.

Onsite Recreation

You may not bump into another soul during your stay, but that’s part of the charm of this Sanctuary, because despite the priceless peace and quiet, it works like a highly efficient bustling mini wellness city. The jewel in the crown is Avalon – a stunning, world-class Wellbeing Centre offering weekly classes such as yoga and meditation sessions.

Avalon is also famed across the globe for its host of leading transformational residential retreats. The Centre has a thoroughly relaxing pool suite where you can chill with a swim or sauna before heading to the state-of-the-art gym complete with a Somadome (a high-tech meditation pod). Broughton Sanctuary also offers a huge range of outdoor nature immersive activities including Woodland Dining in the Garden of Cosmic Origin; a Woodland Sauna; Wild Swimming; Ice Bathing Experience; Sweat Lodge and Ceremonies and Fire Temple Celebrations. You can also enjoy a spot of Forest Bathing, designed to heighten your sensory awareness, with wellbeing in nature guru, Liz Dawes.

Nearby Attractions

Most visitors stay on the Sanctuary estate, especially as it has one of the UK’s most magnificent nature recovery programmes, managed by Kelly Hollick, which was England’s largest tree planting scheme in 2021. The project has been the brainchild of estate owner Roger Tempest and his partner Paris Ackrill who aim to leave Broughton Sanctuary in a healthier condition for future generations to enjoy, in a bid to show how both nature and humanity can truly flourish. However, if you do wish to trek outside the ornate Estate gates, the beautiful market town of Skipton is on your doorstep, as are the magnificent Dales. The famed Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth and Salt Mills in Saltaire are also close by.
