Fitzdares Publishes Its First Book: William Wolfe’s Guide to Excellent Living in London

Recently named SBC’s Racing Sportsbook of The Year, Fitzdares is widely renowned as the world’s finest bookmaker, dating back to the 1800s. Just a few months ago, the brand opened a members’ club in Mayfair, just around the corner from Claridge’s. And this has been followed by the release of their first book; a definitive pocket guide to the capital, for London’s most discerning gentlemen.

Celebrating London’s finest

Written by Country Life contributor and social historian Martin Williams, the book has been designed by Stefano Arato and illustrated by New York-based artist Tug Rice. And it’s a celebration of the fine London institutions that keep craftsmanship and excellent service alive. The book has arrived just in time for Christmas and is the result of CEO William Woodhams’ long-standing dream. Told in a first-person anecdotal style, it features the fictional character of ‘William Wolfe’, inspired by Will Woodhams, his late father Rod Woodhams, and the author Martin Williams. It caters to London veterans, new arrivals and discerning tourists alike.

It covers over a hundred of the best venues, shops and service providers in London today. ‘Morning’ covers tailors, cobblers, dry cleaners, barbers, booksellers, florists, stationers, wine dealers, cafes and specialist food shops. ‘Noon’ covers lunch spots, outfitters, shoe-makers, hatters and shops (for special gifts). And ‘Night’ covers pubs, bars, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs.

Unmissable establishments in the most gentlemanly city in the world

Fitzdares CEO William Woodhams said of the launch:

“This has been a real labour of love and we cannot wait for it to come out. We hope our guide not only confirms your own excellent taste but also brings to your attention a few new but quite unmissable establishments to frequent and savour when in London.”

Martin Williams added:

“Drawing on years of first-hand experience, as well as tips and recommendations from discerning friends, acquaintances and experts, it’s been a joy to compile, research and write this guide for Fitzdares. From Mayfair to Bermondsey, and from pie and mash to haute cuisine, William Wolfe will, I hope, prove to his readers that London is still the most gentlemanly city in the world today.”

William Wolfe’s Guide to Excellent Living in London is available to buy from The Fitzdares Club Online Shop, The Fitzdares Club, Jeeves of Belgravia and Gentleman’s Journal for £14.99. PDF versions of the book will also be available.
