Higueron Hotel Curio Collection By Hilton – Lifestyle Hotel On The Costa Del Sol

The striking, contemporary resort of Higuerón Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton, is at the heart of Andalucía’s Costa del Sol. This lifestyle property is dedicated to living well, with a fine art & classic car collection, award-winning gastronomy, including SOLLO restaurant, world-class sports and elite training facilities, Higuerón Sport Club, as well as one of the region’s largest wellness facilities, Higuerón Spa. There’s an iconic rooftop pool club called Infinity, as well as regular shuttle down to an exclusive beach club with Higuerón Yachts

Higuerón Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton is found on a steep hillside between Benalmadena and Fuengirola. It is the established hub of the Higuerón Resort, a real estate development of villas and apartments (many still in construction) that covers the hillside overlooking the Mediterranean.

The hotel is a destination for both visitors and locals who come to enjoy one of the coast’s largest health clubs, Higuerón Sport, as well as Higuerón Spa, the outdoor tennis and pádel courts, and a beach volley court.

The lofty, light-filled interiors of the resort buildings have a minimalist design, showcasing a fine collection of some 400 works of art including sculptures, collages, lithographs, and paintings by renowned artists including Enrique Brinkman, Lita Cabellut and Francisco Leiro. There are classic cars too, including Alfred Hitchcock’s Rolls Royce, decorated by Malaga street artist D.Darko.

Gastronomy & dining

The Higuerón Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton has a choice of cafés, bars and restaurants, from fine dining to beach club restaurants.

Destination Dining

SOLLO by Diego Gallegos is one of the gastronomic highlights of the Higueron Hotel. This Michelin-star restaurant offers sustainable cuisine, with a menu that focuses on fresh Mediterranean flavours while still preserving the influence of Diego Gallegos’s Latin American roots. Sollo restaurant by Diego Gallegos has a Michelin Star, as well as a Green Star for sustainability in the Michelin Guide and two Repsol Suns.

You can read more about this extraordinary restaurant, in The Luxury Editor news article about ‘SOLLO’.

The Japo restaurant is found overlooking the sea, in the Higuerón beach club. This is recognised as one of the finest contemporary Japanese restaurants on the coast.  We started our evening with exquisite gyozas, tuna tartar, and creamy edamame, with a delicious yellow chilli sauce.

Then there were tempting, handmade maki, as well as a selection of sushi and sashimi.  The delicately sliced Uzusukuri Hiramasa has a delight.

Our experience at The Japo was superb, and not only for the elegantly prepared, deliciously fresh fusion dishes but for the friendly team that made the evening so memorable.

Mediterranean & fusion flavours

Chef Diego Gallegos has also created the family-friendly Arara Bistro Bar promising a fusion of Brazilian, Peruvian and Andalusian flavours, along with exotic Southeast Asian influences (pictured below right).

The hotel’s main restaurant, Med offers all-day snacks and meals celebrating the delicious lifestyle of the Mediterranean (pictured below left).

For tasty snacks, and morning smoothies or a great coffee, there is the Chupadeo café in the lobby, distinguished with the “Sabor a Málaga” quality seal.

Infinity is the hotel’s rooftop pool, bar and restaurant. Daybeds are billed extra for guests as well as visitors, but the cost includes a credit at the bar for drinks and snacks. This is the iconic summer pool club destination with impressive views across the coast.

Lifestyle & Wellness

There are two other outdoor, sun-kissed pools including the Higuerón Sport pool as well as the ‘Med’ pool offering abundant daybeds. If you want shade, choose one of the cabanas – these are included for guests of the Leiro Experience.

The Higuerón Spa is impressive with a 25m indoor heated pool, and a water circuit area that includes 30 different jets massaging different areas of the body. Also, there’s a Turkish bath and Sauna. The spa area includes dedicated spa treatment rooms for fabulous signature treatments and rejuvenating rituals. Afterwards one can extend the feeling of well-being in the dedicated relaxation area, a solarium for sunbathing.

The adjacent Higuerón Sport Club includes a sports pool for activities and lap swimming and a large exercise area with all the expected equipment. These are amongst the most comprehensive sports and wellness facilities we have seen at a resort hotel.

Suites and Accommodation

The hotel is divided into three towers, each named after a Spanish artist.

The newest is the Leiro Tower offering sophisticated accommodation – the Leiro Suites & Residences by Higuerón Resort. This tower takes its name from the eminent Spanish artist, Francisco Leiro. Standing tall in the huge atrium of the tower are two iconic sculptures, Sayon 1 and Sayon 2, creatively crafted from ancient chestnut tree trunks.

We would certainly recommend this option, as the accommodation is more elegant, including rooftop sky suites – and more facilities and services are included in the room rate, including some very attractive perks.

At the time of writing, the residences are currently under construction. We understand that the Leiro private villas will be available to book for autumn 2023.

Presently there are 113 Leiro suites, each with large terraces. We stayed in a Leiro sky suite. These occupy the top floor, creating a very spacious duplex with open plan living and sleeping area on the lower floor including a large bedroom area with desk, bathtub, and views to the hillside and Mediterranean. The super king-size bed is huge!

The welcome amenities are wonderful, including a Leiro cocktail box, so you can mix yourself a generous G&T.

There is a separate WC, a large rain shower, and plenty of storage/wardrobe space.

On the second level, the rooftop, one finds the terrace, generously furnished with sofas, potted Mediterranean plants like lavender and olive trees, a large daybed, and even a hot tub!

Guests of the Leiro Suites & Residences enjoy a range of perks and bonuses including:
