Waldorf Astoria Berlin
(5 stars)Few hotel brands have shaped luxury hospitality quite like Waldorf Astoria, a name synonymous with luxury for over a century, and one so pioneering in its approach that the original Waldorf Astoria in New York developed many guest experiences that in today’s world are now taken as standard. Its Berlin outpost towers above West Berlin, a building of stacked construction, almost Tetris-like in its formation, while inside, contemporary interiors draw on the brand’s Art Deco heritage. With 232 guest rooms and suites, Italian-New York inspired restaurant ROCA, an award-winning spa and Afternoon Tea library, this has to be the capital’s most compelling address for the discerning traveller.

25Hours Bikini Berlin
(4 stars)25hours Berlin is an ultramodern millennial paradise, a hit from the moment it opened in 2014. The hotel is right in the heart of the Berlin Zoo district in the Bikini Berlin which was a former 1590’s high rise, that has been completely reimagined as a culture and art quarter. Expect floor to ceiling windows in rooms, black tiled walk in showers, double sided mirrors and the occasional hammock to monkey about in (well we are near the zoo after all). Views looking out to the zoo’s elephant and ape enclosures in the Jungle rooms and Urban rooms look over the war-damaged spire of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the City West skyline. This is a seriously cool hotel that we just love.

Telegraphenamt
(5 stars)Steeped in history, Telegraphenamt is housed in Berlin’s former Telegraph office, which was considered Germany’s most sophisticated postal building. Its basement contained one of the largest pneumatic mail tube systems in Europe – revolutionising the way to deliver mail at the time. Spearheaded by renowned Berlin proprietor Roland Mary, the historically listed building was lovingly restored and modernised, reopening as Telegraphenamt in late 2022 to enrich the neighbourhoods around Hackesche Höfe, Auguststrasse and Torstrasse with its diverse offerings of culture, venue uses, and gastronomy.
The meticulously restored historic building boasts 97 charming rooms and maisonettes, ranging from 21 and 140 square meters, serving as retreats in the metropolis. Inspired by the Berlin of the 1920s, the building’s history and the current lifestyle of the city, the original building elements such as the columns, capped ceilings in the rooms and the exposed brick walls have been integrated into the modern interior design. Rooms facing Monbijoupark afford views of the TV Tower, the Berlin Cathedral, and the red City Hall. The seven maisonettes, with 14-feet high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows, offer an exceptional living space.
Telegraphenamt is also home to the destination restaurant ROOT. With a versatile offering, the ROOT menu has influences from across the globe, but with most of the ingredients being sourced locally. Behind the concept is the team of Roland Mary, who operates several restaurants in Berlin including the iconic Borchardt – a celebrity favourite, with past guests including George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Madonna, and Barack Obama. Guests can also enjoy bespoke cocktails at ROOT bar: where chic ambience meets eclectic cocktail art, and the hotel’s meeting and event spaces that have played backdrop to Berlin Fashion Week parties.
