Texas, Irving
Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas
(5 stars)Somewhat of an exclusive country club, this particular Four Seasons Resort is found a little away from the hub of activity. En route to Fort Worth, in a leafy suburb of Las Colinas, it places guests close to the lakeside and the locale’s fancy shops and eateries. But there are amenities galore onsite. Three pools (one with a pseudo beach, one that spans 25,000-square-feet), 12 tennis courts, a triple deck Sports Club, a kids club, an 18-hole golf course, two restaurants and a bar. 431 rooms are decorated in muted, earthy colours, with a classic, upscale style.
Colorado, Aspen
The Little Nell
(5 stars)Arguably the hippest hotspot in town, this minimalist property is the only five-star, five-diamond hotel in Aspen. As part of the Relais & Chateaux collection, it has an incredible food and drink offer. Element 47 serves New American cuisine, with a choice of over 20,000 different wines to accompany the meal (guests can also tour the funky red-lit wine cellar). Lighter meals are offered in the firelit Living Room, at Chair 9 – the hotel’s late-night club venue – and Ajax Tavern. The rooms and suites have been styled by Champalimaud Design and all have cosy gas log fireplaces.
Colorado, Aspen
Hotel Jerome, Auberge Resorts Collection
(4 stars)An eco-friendly option, Hotel Jerome is set up with in-room recycling bins, filtered water in glass bottles, LED light bulbs, low-flow water systems and locally sourced edibles. 94 rooms come equipped with a yoga mat, Nespresso machine, a humidifier, complimentary minibar packed with decadent goodies and hand-blended Auberge toiletries in refillable containers. While this hotel is deeply chic with excellent apres, it’s also welcoming of families (there’s a games room and chargeable babysitting service) and dogs. Formal meals take place at Prospect restaurant or on the terrace (weather permitting), while the J-Bar serves bar food alongside tipples in a vintage styled setting.

Colorado, Snowmass Village
Viceroy Snowmass
(5 stars)Occupying a prime ski-in/ski-out location, the Viceroy offers upscale accommodations in Snowmass Village, just a little outside of Aspen’s centre. Ideal for families and those wanting to self-cater, rooms come with kitchenettes and there’s a daily programme of activities for younger guests. But there are also two eateries on-site – the fine dining Eight K Restaurant and a poolside Asian inspired cafe, Nest. After-dinner drinks can be taken alfresco, or indoors beside a roaring fire. The huge spa spans a total of 7,000-square-feet, incorporating plunge pools, a Vichy wet room, jacuzzis and a blissful relaxation suite. Outside, there‘s a heated saline pool with a fire pit and cabanas.
Florida, Orlando
The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes
(5 stars)Offering villa living within a hotel complex, each of the 37 residences here has at least three bedrooms and a pool. The resort provides guests with a full-service spa, an 18-hole Greg Norman Signature Golf Course, 11 restaurants and bars, tennis courts, children’s activities, babysitting services, water sports and fishing in the neighbouring Grande Lakes. Covering 500 acres, the venue has been inspired by its natural surroundings and provides on-site eco-tours. And for those wanting some adult-only time, there’s a child-free pool area. It’s a relatively new addition to the Orlando hotel scene (and the Ritz-Carlton portfolio), having opened its doors in 2018.
Florida, Orlando
JW Marriott Orlando Grande Lakes
(5 stars)Standing tall on the city’s horizon, the JW Marriott is just across from the Ritz-Carlton. A lazy river and family-oriented pool with plenty of sunloungers contrast three peaceful hydrotherapy pools found in the full-service spa (but even this caters to kids with a menu of children’s treatments). There’s a whole retail avenue inside, including shops, a Starbucks and a healthy cafe. Large bedrooms have Revive bedding in soothing colour schemes, coffee makers, iHome docking stations, Aromatherapy Associates toiletries and 65 inch TVs. Farm to table cuisine is served in the many on-site eateries, ranging from fine dining to a sushi bar and poolside grill.
Florida, Orlando
Four Seasons Orlando
(5 stars)A brand renowned for its culinary offer, this Four Seasons holds up its reputation. Ravello serves fine Mediterranean cuisine alongside fine vintages – as well as hosting a bi-weekly Disney character breakfast. Stay here and you can enjoy the early entry theme park privilege otherwise reserved for Disney’s own on-site hotels. You’ll be transferred via private coach service from this gated community to the four parks. The architecture is reminiscent of Spain, while interior decor echoes contemporary Italian style. Two infinity pools enable families and adults to enjoy some sun-time separately – the child-friendly one has waterslides and a lazy river.
Florida, Orlando
Waldorf Astoria Orlando
(5 stars)If you’d like to stay as close to Disney as possible – but not in one of their themed hotels – this is the place to book. Part of the Bonnet Creek complex, it’s a short drive from the theme parks, yet a beautifully calm oasis to escape the tourist bustle. Featuring local artwork, a Rees Jones-designed golf course, fancy boutiques and a glamorous cocktail bar, it’s deeply refined. However, kids are warmly welcomed too, kept occupied with their own programme of activities and dedicated pool – allowing the adults to enjoy some freshly baked croissants, in-room Nespresso coffee, beauty treatments or even a poolside Prosecco Popsicle.
California, San Diego
The Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa
(4 stars)For a full-on beach (or boating) holiday, choose this 439 room resort on the Coronado Peninsula. It has its very own full-service 80-slip marina offering gondola rides, surf lessons and sunset cruises. And there’s a beach shuttle – although it is just a five-minute walk along a private path from the resort to the sandy shores. This location does mean it’s a little further out from San Diego, but still within a 20-minute taxi ride. Pet and family-friendly, the hotel has a programme of events for kids, a teen lounge, three pools and a global fusion restaurant to keep all palates happy.
