Relais & Châteaux has welcomed a new addition to its prestigious portfolio with the inclusion of Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni, a landmark property set on the edge of Lake Como in Bellagio and from 15 July 2025, the historic 94-room hotel becomes part of the association’s carefully curated network, known for celebrating local culture, culinary heritage, and independent luxury hospitality.
Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni first opened in 1873 and has a historic guestbook including Churchill, JFK, Mary Shelley, Franz Liszt (his piano still sits in the hotel) and Sophia Loren, to name a few! The hotel has been in the Bucher family for over 150 years and its legacy as one of Lake Como’s oldest and most iconic hotels continues under the stewardship of Jan Bucher, the current General Manager and fourth-generation family member. The hotel’s new affiliation is not only a recognition of its heritage but a step forward in preserving its distinct identity.
Dining remains central to the guest experience, with Mistral Restaurant offering modern, Michelin-recommended fine dining and La Goletta presenting classic Italian dishes in a relaxed, nautically inspired setting. Guests can begin each day with a breakfast served beneath frescoed ceilings and end it with lakeside aperitivi crafted with local botanicals and house infusions.
The interiors reflect a strong sense of place and craftsmanship, from Murano glass chandeliers and antique furnishings to hand-embroidered linens and 19th-century frescoes. Each room and suite is individually decorated, many offering panoramic views across the lake and surrounding gardens.
Relais & Châteaux membership positions the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni among a global community of characterful, independently owned hotels and restaurants. The hotel is open seasonally from March to November and continues to attract a discerning international clientele drawn by its sense of continuity, quiet elegance, and exceptional service.
